Prevention of steel reinforcement corrosion in alkali-activated slag cement concrete mixed with seawater

چکیده

Concretes mixed with seawater are characterised by enhanced performances, but action of chlorides and sulfates ensures the risk reinforcement corrosion. Application high consistency fresh concretes changes in hardened concrete structure that causes problem steel passive state ensuring. Thus mixing plasticized actualizes search for means corrosion prevention. Alkali-activated slag cements (further, AASC’s) reduce effect ions Cl − SO 4 2− on due to their exchange OH zeolite-like alkaline hydroaluminosilicates. Complex additive «portland cement - calcium aluminate clinoptilolite» was proposed enhance protective properties AASC reinforcement. The results DTA, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, microprobe analysis show complex prevent binding Kuzel’s salt hydration products these aggressive clinoptilolite. This confirmed surface absence mass loss rebars embedded fine after 90 d hardening.

Mechanical Properties and Eco-Efficiency of Steel Fiber Reinforced Alkali-Activated Slag Concrete

Conventional concrete production that uses ordinary Portland cement (OPC) as a binder seems unsustainable due to its high energy consumption, natural resource exhaustion and huge carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. To transform the conventional process of concrete production to a more sustainable process, the replacement of high energy-consumptive PC with new binders such as fly ash and alkali-acti...

SELF-Cured Alkali Activated Slag Concrete Mixes- An Experimental Study

Alkali Activated Slag Concrete (AASC) mixes are manufactured by activating ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) using sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate solutions. The aim of the present experimental research was to investigate the effect of increasing the dosages of sodium oxide (Na2O, in the range of 4 to 8%) and the activator modulus (Ms) (i.e. the SiO2/Na2O ratio, in the range of ...

(Micro)-structural comparison between geopolymers, alkali-activated slag cement and Portland cement

Concurrently to research conducted on ordinary Portland cement (PC), new types of binders were developed during the last decades. These are formed by alkali-activation of metakaolin or ground-granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and are named, respectively, geopolymers (GP) or alkali-activated slag (AAS). Four different cementitious materials were synthesised: PC, AAS, GP, and a mix GP-AAS and...

Effect of Blast Furnace Slag Powder and Fly Ash on Durability of Concrete Mixed with Seawater

According to the report of the United Nations, it is said that two-third of world population would be influenced by water shortage before 2050. To use fresh water effectively, the usage of seawater in concrete industry seems imperative. However, the usage of seawater as concrete material is prohibited in almost all the standards or specifications around the world. In this article, the usage of ...
